President Shi Ke visited universities in Ghana and Kenya
From 7th to 14th January, at the invitation of relevant universities in Ghana and Kenya, President of our university Shi Ke paid an exchange visit to four universities, including University of Nairobi. Principals of the Research Office, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Foreign Languages and Golf Training Centre accompanied him on the visit.
During the visit to Ghana, Samuel Adams, the Executive Vice Chancellor of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and his accompanies met Chinese visitors delegated by Shi Ke. Mr. Adams introduced the history and development of GIMPA in details as well as the basic situation of international cooperation and exchanges, expressing sincere wish to carry out all-around cooperation with our university. Shi Ke also expressed his gratitude to GIMPA for its warm reception and introduced the basic situation of Xinyu University. He stressed that GIMPA was a university with distinctive characteristics in disciplines and specialties, hoping that this visit would be an opportunity to cooperate on the training of engineers of new energy, technical and vocational training of new energy, and practical breeding programme for managers of innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of new energy, so as to comprehensively promote substantive exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. The two sides exchanged thoughts on diverse aspects including substantive exchanges and cooperation in the areas of joint training of students, mutual visits of teachers and cooperation in scientific research as well as information sharing in the future.
During the period of visiting, Shi Ke also interviewed with Mr. Divine Ayidzoe, Director of Statistics, Research, Information Management and Public Relations, Mr. Isaac Biney, Director of Policy, Budget, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Ms. Azara, Director of Before Higher Education. Shi Ke introduced the situation of our university on the conducting of education for foreign students and hoped that Ghana Ministry of Education would provide policy support for the cooperation between our university and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration to carry out the skilled training of new energy and the training programme for managers of innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of new energy.
During the visit to Kenya, Shi Ke and his delegation visited Multimedia University of Kenya, University of Nairobi and Mount Kenya University. Festus Kaberia, Acting Vice Chancellor and former Ambassador of Kenya to India, met with Shi Ke and his delegation. The two sides fully exchanged views on research management and evaluation, construction of engineering disciplines, construction of laboratories, and opportunities for the development of universities based on Kenya's new energy strategy.
During the visit to University of Nairobi, Peter M. F. Mbithi, Acting Vice Chancellor, met Shi Ke and his entourage, and Peter M. F. Mbithi showed a strong wish and trend to cooperate with our university in fields including the construction of disciplines and specialization of new energy, and the practical transformation of scientific and technological achievements in the field of new energy, and so on. The chancellor also indicated that he would like to lead a delegation to visit Xinyu University in 2017. During the visit to Mount Kenya University, Simon Gicharu, chairman of the board of directors, warmly welcomed Shi Ke and his entourage and briefly introduced the basic situation of Mount Kenya University, hoping that the professional cooperation of undergraduate level in new energy science and engineering with our university would be carried out as soon as possible. He also expressed his expectation for our university's counterpart to support the construction of the Engineering School of Mount Kenya University. Shi Ke accordingly expressed his gratitude to Mount Kenya University for the warm reception and briefly introduced the basic situation of Xinyu University from the aspects of school history, professional characteristics, talent cultivation and so on. At the same time, the two sides had an in-depth discussion on fields including the cooperation in the construction of new energy disciplines and majors, teachers' mutual visits, students' exchanges, cooperative scientific researches, information sharing, successfully reaching a widespread consensus. Both sides agreed that the two schools have similar disciplines and a broad basis for cooperation, for which they both believed that the cooperation between the two sides will further promote the common development of the two universities. At the end of the meeting, Shi Ke and the management team consisting of the heads of colleges and departments and other faculties headed by Executive Vice Chancellor called Stanley Waudo discussed and signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two universities. A memorandum of cooperation between the two universities was signed, and a timetable was set for the advancement of professional cooperation in new energy science and engineering.
During the visit, President Shi Ke also awarded for the international institution cooperating with our university, helding a seminar of studying abroad with the institution, on which he met with representatives of friends and kinsfolk of Kenya students.
